Amelia Samuel, educator and Youth President, is a woman on a mission to make a difference. She currently serves as President for the District Wesleyan Youth (Barbados) and is the Teacher-in-Charge of the Education Unit at The Albert Cecil Graham Development Centre for students with special needs.

Amelia considers herself as a person who enjoys life. Going to the gym, travelling, spending time with friends and watching movies are just a few of the things she does for leisure. She is the youngest of 5 children and the 3rd educator of the group. Family is very important to her. This is perhaps best seen in her acknowledgement of her sister, Anjanette, as her role model. Amelia admits to always wanting to be like Anjanette, in terms of her character, accomplishments and general drive to succeed.

Along the way, Amelia has held a number of leadership positions across the church, school & community groups. With strong gifting in the area of administration, she has shown dedication towards whatever task she undertakes. This passionate & dedicated 31-year-old sees herself, more than anything else, as a servant of God. Amelia has a heart for young people and is determined to assist them in reaching their full potential.

Amelia discovered her passion for working with special needs children at a special needs camp on a study trip to New York. Since receiving her Master’s Degree in Special Needs Education from the University Of Nottingham, Amelia has served as an educator for over 7 years. She admits that the young persons she works with at school and at church are her main source of motivation. “It brings joy to my heart being able to know that I have influence in their lives,” she affirmed.

She reflected on her time studying overseas as being a very enlightening experience which significantly helped to shape the person she is today and said she would recommend studying abroad to any individual, “it exposes you to a whole new level of thinking,” she confirmed.

Her Words Of Inspiration

“Put God first, He is the source of everything and once you do, you also have to put in the hard work. God has invested and planted within each of us something we can use so we just need to tap into that.”
