Whether they are the fruit of inhumane humor or hypothetical ignorance they post a serious threat in managing the spread of the virus. Here we have compiled 5 such myths: Myth: Young people (under 30s) are immune Fact: People of all ages can be infected by the virus. However, people with pre-existing health conditions appear to be more vulnerable. People of all ages should take steps to protect themselves from the virus. For example: by following good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene. Myth: Wearing a mask will prevent me from getting the virus Fact: Wearing a mask only is not a sufficient preventative method. Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with the virus. Persons with this virus or displaying symptoms should wear a mask to prevent the spread of the virus when they cough or sneeze. Myth: COVID-19 cant survive in temperatures higher than 25C degrees Fact: Exposing yourself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25C degrees DOES NOT prevent the coronavirus (COVID-19). You can catch COVID-19 regardless of how sunny or hot the weather is. Countries with hot weather have reported cases of COVID-19. To protect yourself, make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates from the evidence so far, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. Regardless of climate, adopt protective measures if you live in, or travel to an area reporting COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is by frequently cleaning your hands. By doing this you eliminate viruses that may be on your hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. Myth: Drinking alcohol protects you against COVID-19 Fact: That is not true. In fact, drinking can be very dangerous. Frequent or excessive alcohol consumption can increase your risk of health problems. Myth: Eating garlic helps prevent infection with COVID-19 Fact: Garlic is a healthy food that may have some antimicrobial properties.
